I feel like I'm losing my mind over this. Was the author in med school when they wrote this, or do they just have some sort of fascination with medical science? The names seem to have absolutely no bearing on their respective characters -- it feels to me like the author was studying for an OChem final and writing the story at the same time, and because names are hard he just yoinked some vocab terms and moved on.

Seriously, what is going on here? Does anyone know what the story behind this is?
